ON CBS & FRAME WALL, CBS WALL SUPPORTING END WALL
HAS BROKEN & SHIFTED 2". CEILING IN WEIGHT ROOM
HAS FALLEN DOWN, INTERIOR WALLS HAVE BUCKLED,
ELECTRICAL RISER HAS PULLED AWAY FROM WALL, METAL
ROOFING & RAFTER TAILS TURNED LOOSE.

CBS WALL SUPPORTING END WALL HAS BROKEN
& SHIFTED 2". CEILING IN WEIGHT ROOM
HAS FALLEN DOWN, INTERIOR WALLS HAVE
BUCKLED, ELECTRICAL RISER HAS PULLED
AWAY FROM WALL, METAL ROOFING & RAFTER
TAILS TURNED LOOSE.
SY INSPECTED: THIS STRUCTURE IS A
WOOD FRAME BUILDING WITH A 32" HIGH
BLOCK KNEEWALL AROUND THE PERIMETER. IT
HAS A RAFTER ROOF SYSTEM WITH BRACES
BOLTED TO THE RAFTERS AT MID SPAN.
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE EAST
WALL. THE CONCRETE BLOCKS THAT MAKE UP
THE KNEEWALL WERE SEPARATED HORIZONTALLY
BY THE WIND PRESSURE EXERTED ON THE
ENTIRE END WALL. THE TOP COURSE OF THE
BLOCKS WERE POURED, BUT THERE WERE NO
VERTICAL POURS MADE TO STRENGTHEN THE
WALL. THIS LACK OF VERTICAL POUR WAS
COMMON AT THE TIME OF THIS CONSTRUCTION.
THE WIND PRESSURE ALSO SEPARATED THE END
RAFTER FROM THE HORIZONTAL ROOF TIES
CONNECTED TO EACH RAFTER. THIS PART CAN
BE EASILY FIXED BUT THE BLOCK WALL WILL
NEED TO BE REBUILT WITH SOME VERTICAL
CELL POURS ADDED. THIS WILL REQUIRE THE
WOOD FRAME END WALL ABOVE THE BLOCK
SECTION TO BE REMOVED OR SUPPORTED IN
SOME MANNER. UNTIL THESE REPAIRS ARE
COMPLETED, I DO NOT CONSIDER THIS
BUILDING TO BE SAFE TO OCCUPY. THE
POTENTIAL OF THE WOOD FRAME END WALL TO
COLLAPSE IS POSSIBLE DUE TO THE
CONDITION OF THE SUPPORTING BLOCK WALL
SECTION.
